Last weekend, the kids and I went to our first small animal swap. That was SO much fun and totally worth an hour's drive. Anyway, while there, I picked up this pair of hens.
I admit, that I've already forgotten what they are. I'm pretty sure it's a splash cochin but the rest escapes me. Frankly, I didn't really care. I just thought they were adorable and would be good company for Trouble Maker (the roo from a couple of posts ago) out at the farm. And I just thought they were sweet.
When I got them all settled in, I snapped a quick picture and sent it to Brian.
He texted back "Wow! Where'd you find a chicken with two heads?"
Har har. Very funny.
I thought the joke ended there. It turns out, they are actually two chickens with one head. Or one brain.
I'm not really sure who is in charge of the brain, but when one turns, so does the other, when one pirouettes, so does the other and when one coos, so does the other. Well, you get the idea. It's adorable. Even for chickens.
Since they seem to be one chicken, acting out in two bodies (that have an ever so subtle tint of lavender) and they''ve kind of stolen the show, I decided to give them just one name. A name they could share; Elizabeth Taylor. Not to be confused with Elizabeth and Taylor.
No one was really impressed.....
Oh, look at Elizabeth Taylor dance.
Oh, listen to Elizabeth Taylor coo.
Oh, isn't Elizabeth Taylor beautiful?
But it works.

They are so pretty! I believe bantam splash cochin is what they are, but I may be off on that. It's hard to tell size via picture. I always described my cochins as little footballs with feathers. ;)

Cindy, I think you're absolutely correct. I can't remember if they're white or silver or what splash?
Feathered footballs indeed. lol
