Ok, so I have a breeding set (1 rooster and 3 hens) of meat birds all ready to start this summer's meat production. Everyone's mature, everyone is laying eggs and they're all fertile eggs.
I meant to have them out at the farm by now, but I haven't had a chance to get their coop and pen set up. I'd let them free range at the farm, like they do at the house, but they can't. Not with Buddy out there. Cock fights are bad.
Free ranging here at the house has presented a new set of challenges too. The meat birds have found the neighbor's bird feeder and have raided it every.single.day for weeks now. *blush*
Our neighbors are just about the coolest folks ever. Jim loves sending pictures of my roo in his feeder to his brother in law in California. I'm sure I've generated great fodder for them, but still, even humor isn't enough when you're buying bird seed for someone else's birds.
So, I bought a little foregiveness (and a little bit more time) with some homegrown food. I'm not talking fresh eggs either. This trespass requires a little more substance.
Kind of cool when the label has my name on it. And even more cool that the neighbors thought it was cool too.
Note to self; Move the meat bird pen to the top of the to-do list.
