Last Christmas, I started collecting a few little wooden animals for Gusty's wool story basket. Yes, toy makers buy toys. ;) Especially when they're delightfully designed and hand-crafted toys from another mama.
So. I found these little wooden sweeties from Mama Roots over at etsy and I was instantly smitten. They're uncomplicated and make my heart happy. A little handful of sunshine.
Her animals were just what most of us are looking for in a toy; Sweet, simple and heirloom quality.
So that would seem like enough, right?
I thought so to, then I get a sweet email that suggested we could be related. We rattle off some names and quickly discover that we are indeed related. Her grandmother is my great aunt, by marriage.
Aunt Ruth.
Gosh, I miss her. We all miss her. Losing Ruth was losing one of the kindest women to grace this busy little planet. I only had her in my life for a short time, but she left a lifetime's impression. Kind, gracious, giving.
Chris, Mama Roots, and I had a lovely time reviving Ruth's memory. I found a kindred spirit, another keeper of family stories and treasures. Geographical distance prevented us from knowing each other when Ruth was still here. But today, my world is suddenly much smaller and I'm just delighted that it is.
I think Ruth would be just tickled to learn that we found each other and are making our children's toys.

Love Mama Roots Etsy store! That is so awesome that you found out you are related like that!! You know my Dad is from MN too. Maybe we are related too and just don't know it! Six degrees of Kevin Bacon fun!
